Good evening Sunday,
We are hot and humid here at Lake in the Ozarks-temps in the 90's This weather will last through the 4th of July
I did finally use my new lawn mower which is battery operated. I am glad I bought the smaller mower as using a mower on these steep hills is a bit of a challenge-one could fall and end up in the lake-not good. I did not get it all done but a good start til the rain and t storms moved in for a couple of days-I bought this one on Amazon I am not using the grass catcher but rather the mulch setting I think it is called-does a good job.
I almost have the third slow stitch bag finished-and then on to putting the bag together and will mail it off to one of my online friends. When this one is finished, I am thinking of laying out one for myself and then take a break on these-and may decide not to stitch more-will decide that later. I probably just need a bit of a break from these bags.
The scrolls are supposed to be relaxing and meditative to stitch so will see how those go. I think I will enjoy them and should stitch up pretty fast too. I am enjoying making the bags too but they are very time consuming
I had saved back some really beautiful hand dyes that was one of my first attempts with Procion dyes back when we first retired. Those were my pride and joy and did not use too many of them-time to enjoy those. At the time I was new to dyeing and had found a dyer that gave free lessons online. I learned a lot from him using those dyes. I also enjoyed playing with natural dyes, and eco prints on cloth. I even did a lot of rust dyeing as well.
I searched around on you tube and the scrolls seems to be very popular now-many are doing mini scrolls on the vintage wooden sewing thread bobbins as well. I have a bunch of those in my craft stash-so will try out that as well. (sorry I probably already mentioned that previously)
I have been laying out more fabrics for the second scroll-the patriotic one celebrating our 250th. I decided I wanted more variety of fabrics than what I have so went shopping on Etsy. Just bought a few fat quarters which should arrive in my mailbox tomorrow-Monday. Over the weekend I decided to look for fabric that was marked 1776-2026 and found one I really like. I shouldn't be buying more fabric but I needed more patriotic designs. Here is a photo I liked this print
I did have on hand a large vintage bobbin 9 inches tall and needed at least one more. I found a really nice vintage one that was not over priced also on Etsy. I searched around there and most were either over priced, wrong size or I didn't like them. This one I got in yesterday I love it, so decided to buy another one. I didn't want to buy two at the time-which would have saved shipping costs til I got one in to see what they looked like in person. .This one is heavier and nicer than the one I had already.
This is the shop's photo . Searching for the vintage textile bobbins-these have become quite popular now-for decor, or craft projects. Many use these for candle stick holders Some sellers have these priced very high.
We will be in the 90's F with high humidity from now til the 4th. So it is too hot for me now to work outdoors.
The last few days I am seeing offspring from the hummingbirds and today a juvenile red headed woodpecker was with a parent at the nectar feeders. I am having a hard time knowing if oriole youngsters are visiting too..
Happy new week everyone.
We had 102F yesterday, I was in heaven! Yay on the mower and all the fabrics to celebrate. So sad Germany (of course) has no such day. Hope the 4th won´t be too loud and you can party a bit, too. Do you plan special snacks? Have a great start to the week, hugs to you and the lake.
ReplyDeleteWow that's warm they had it on the news yesterday about the very hot temperatures in Europe and most do not have air conditioning. I didn't grow up with a/c but here in Missouri one really needs it some summers very hot and humid. Not sure yet what I will do for food. My husband's health is failing a lot these past few days.
DeleteNo aircon here., either but I love the heat. So very sorry to hear about Larry. Scary. Wishing you strength... And that he´s on the way up again.
DeleteThank you Iris hugs
DeleteGlad your new mower is perfect for you. We are already under an extreme heat watch. Actual temps in the few days to reach over 100. UGH I will be watering my annuals a lot more these days. Just praying our air conditioner holds out and the electric grid as well. Love that patriotic fabric. Look forward to seeing what you do with it. In the cross stitch world they are stitching these scrolls as well. I have not got on that bandwagon though. Janice
ReplyDeleteI am happy with the mower too-I am usually afraid of new things so this is first time using it. we are really hot too-ugh along with the high humidity here. that is pretty cool that cross stitched scrolls are happening too-I think it is supposed to be fun and more stress free-just enjoy stitches wondering how cross stitch works as there is no patterns for these
DeleteFirst you had to plan your mowing around the rain. Now its the heat. I bet next weekend will be very busy at the Lake.
ReplyDeleteYes it has been frustrating for sure-even early in the morning it is too hot and humid for me now to work outside. Yes the lake will be crazy busy for sure especially with the th being on a saturday
