Good morning Saturday,
This morning we are a bit cooler-not a lot, and no full sun as of yet at around 9am With all the rain and storms here along with high humidity it hasn't been good for me to work outdoors.
So I went out early and since we have had so much rain here this week the weeds pulled right out. I worked for about an hour so I wouldn't over do it, and to check on husband. I am so happy with the perennials I have picked up this summer. Most are doing really well. A couple of the bee balm are still very slow growing but most are looking really good.. When I was in Lowes I picked up two really pretty echinacea plants. I decided to put the two plants into two tubs like this one. I have added a lot of bags of garden soil to this area-which is to the left looking out the door. For some reason nothing grows well here at all not sure why This gets full sun for part of the day and then a little less sun in the afternoon. Thought these plants would do well in these pots. Love the color

Yesterday a good friend of ours that Larry had met when we first bought this home, stopped by to visit. His parents own a lake house here that they mostly rent out. He offered to cut my grass for me-to get me caught up-it was very tall. I don't think he realized how much grass is here to cut. I am so thankful-he has been a good friend-always stops in to see us when he comes down for a weekend. He lives in the Kansas City Mo area and is in between jobs at the moment-He is a trained chef and also a manager for big restaurants. I suggested if he wanted to relocate to this area-there are lots and lots of new restaurants here at the lake now.
Larry's suburban hasn't been driven for about a year and a half now I try to remember to start it and let it run for a bit. Now that I need to move it before Tuesday when the appliances get delivered it won't start. I never learned how to charge a battery so I will need help with that and get it moved out of the way before Tuesday-always something stressful right now-I am working on relaxing my mind
We watch a little of Fox and Friends for morning news and today they mentioned the storm damages at Lake in the Ozarks-There was a lot here-we had another mini storm that sounded like a tornado on the water again a couple days ago. I think these storms pop up with high humidity and temperatures

I was looking around on You Tube and this video popped up about Lake in the Ozarks that was recorded this July 4th-I knew this was a party lake in some areas so it shows that too, and at the end we lost electric here on the 4th of July and the city had hired a fireworks show that defaulted at the last minute so the cities told everyone they could shoot off fireworks off of their docks It was an interesting video

How great that he mowed! I love that. Can you grow any food there where all the grass is?
ReplyDeleteYes our friend is such a nice man, especially to care about seniors like us. I have found it so difficult to grow food in the area I am in-in Missouri. the summers are usually extreme-and when we livde in the woods the deer ate everything until we fenced in a small area-we brought in lots of horse manure etc so I had a nice small spot. here at the lake we live in the more rural area but our property is mostly steep hills. and we have deer that walk through our yard all the time too haha-they come in at night. I do miss not having our own food. I am buying our meat from usa ranchers, and fresh caught fish from alaska, have not found a good produce delivery as of yet

ReplyDeleteGood evening-I fell in love with this color too The Lowes we went to had really nice plants. I am loving bee balm-I bought several plants this year. Missouri has had a lot of really bad storms this month so far-Happy new week
DeleteIt HAS been a year for grass! Our days of cooler rainy weather seem to be over for now. Those upper 90s seem so hot. It tried to rain today, but mostly fizzled. Hope getting the new appliances works out fine. Take care and good luck!

DeleteI was wondering if you were in danger from all the storms and flooding... I'm so glad to hear you are alright AND someone helped mow the grass... !!! :) Alot of my weeds and grass has died, thank goodness, from the lack of rain and 100 temps but lo and behold.... its to cool off and rain this next week... better clean up the mower...lol I'm so sorry it seems its been one thing after another this year for you... When it rains it pours.. Gosh i hope you are able to get the suburban started... that would be my luck it wouldn't start when i needed it to... since youve been starting it and letting it run... could it be out of gas...?? that would be my kind of luck to...lol Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteGood morning did a whole bunch of cutting to get rid of the two dead lilac bushes on both ends of the walk way in front of the house-that was a job-but opened up a lot of light-liking that. have a huge pile to put somewhere to decompose.
DeleteI think the worst of the flooding was in south or south west Missouri including a childrens camp we have lots and lots of rain here this summer-and we had no snow at all during winter so mother nature is catching up
Never thought about low gas could be possible not sure how to check it though
Ok.... hubs said..... depending on the age of the vehicle... turn the key part way so the auxiliary comes on... that might make the gas needle move... And he wanted to know if you turn the key does it just make a clicking sound or does it actually try to turn over.... :)
DeleteThanks Deb, I was facebook chatting with our friend in kansas city on facebook messenger about it the suburban does not have a key just that fob which I guess all cars have now-so I went up to the car-pushed unlock-the car did unlock-so got in and you push a button to start it-and started right up-wow that was relief. we have been using the fob down by the front door to start it to not run the battery out and that didn't work--so am happy that worked. now waiting for a friend nearby to come today to move it so the appliances can get down the stairs
DeleteInteresting to read that your fireworks company backed out at the last minute. That happened to some of the municipalities in the metro St. Louis area too. One of the cities is thinking about suing the company.

DeleteWhat a nice friend to stop in for a visit and also to mow the lawn. I hope you can get some help in charging the Suburban's battery before the new appliances will be delivered. Life seems to always throw new challenges. We haven't had rain in well over a week and a half. There was a slight reprieve from the heat and humidity, but it's returning next week by mid-week and no rain in the forecast.
ReplyDeleteGood morning, I am thankful for rain here as usually this area gets very little rain during the summer months so difficult to keep the plants watered-I gave up on annual flowers here as they don't survive passed July usually. My perennials are looking good with all the rain and humidity.

Thank you is such a nice man, I think he is in his early 30's now I was able to get the suburban started today-I chatted with same friend and he suggested what to do and it worked- the fob opened the door and then I could start the car and it had plenty of gas too. for some reason the fob outside of the car will not start it still high humidity here --I got a lot of work done outdoors though early while it was shady and cooler
DeleteI saw all the wet weather in your area. We need some rain, but I don't think anybody needs the rain you have gotten in your area. Glad you aren't part of any of those floods. And that was so nice that you found some lawn mowing help. And it's interesting the city let people shoot off fireworks. We're told that they are bad for the lake health. ReplyDeleteWe had very strong winds with a lot of damages on the lake, but glad that severe flooding was not in this area-the southern are of Missouri got hit really bad. there are a lot of rivers in Missouri with hills and valleys so this state does get a lot of flooding
Deletefireworks over the dock is not allowed here either on the lake but since many cities got scammed with no fireworks and there was no electric here on the lake- they decided to let lake homes shoot off fireworks this year

Kathy so glad to read that you are not working in the heat of the day...it has been so humid here also. Looks like you had quite a bit of bad weather...so happy you and Larry were safe during the storms. How nice of your friend to help you out with the mowing. Take care friend and stay cool. P.S., adore the color of your echinacea - have never been successful with growing bee balm...it always seems to die no matter where I place in the garden. Hugs!
